Usecase Keesing

Keesing is the market leader in Europe in the field of puzzle magazines. The publishing house provides puzzle publications throughout Europe under various brand names. Well-known brand names in the range are 'Denksport' (Netherlands and Flanders), 'Sport Cérébral' (France), 'Megastar' (France, Spain, Italy and Germany) and 'Tankesport' (Denmark, Norway and Sweden). In addition to its Amsterdam headquarters, the company has international offices in London, Paris, Madrid, Stockholm, Antwerp and Copenhagen. Keesing has more than 300 employees, about half of whom are based in Amsterdam. The company had a turnover of 150 million euros in 2017.

Challenge

Keesing's HR department needs a clear and secure overview of all information from their employees. Because Keesing is active in several countries in Europe and each country has its own rules, employees are rewarded in different ways. The data must be protected from outsiders and non-HR personnel of Keesing, due to their sensitivity.

Process

Before the data could be visualized, some data transformations were done in Python. Examples of this are that the countries in Europe do not all use the Euro as their currency, so that a mapping had to be made to the same values. In addition, countries have a different work week, so everything had to be automatically scaled to a 40-hour work week. Furthermore, an international standard format has been drawn up to which the data of all individual countries must comply.

Solution

Because we were dealing with sensitive data, we created a Tabular model between the database and PowerBI, which ensures authorization and a secure environment. Team Datacation has taken charge of the entire project and has successfully executed the project in consultation with the customer: from the project plan, to the Python and SQL statements, to designing the Tabular model and visualizing the dashboards in PowerBI. Keesing now has a secure and live overview of all employees throughout Europe.
