Data Engineer
Full Time - Amsterdam

Have you taken your first steps in data engineering and are you ready for more responsibility? At Datacation, we believe that making a real impact starts with bridging the gap between business challenges and the right data architecture. We are looking for driven Data Engineers who can work independently but also enjoy collaborating and exchanging ideas with colleagues, for our offices in Amsterdam and Eindhoven.

As a Data Engineer, you take an active role in challenging data and cloud projects. You don’t just focus on execution; you also contribute to the design of pipelines and architectures. Working closely with our senior engineers and consultants, you continue to develop yourself into a specialist. You are given the freedom to take ownership within projects. Your responsibilities include, among others:

  • Translating business challenges into scalable, data-driven solutions.
  • Independently building, optimizing, and maintaining data pipelines (batch and streaming), primarily in Azure.
  • Working with a modern data stack such as Azure Databricks, PySpark, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and orchestration tools.
  • Designing and implementing Data Lake structures such as the medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold).
  • Applying containerization with Docker and setting up or managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Actively communicating with clients about project progress and technical decisions.
  • Sharing knowledge and collaborating with senior data engineers and data consultants.
  • Presenting your own solutions and results to clients.
  • Attending events to expand your network and deepen your knowledge.

  • Proven experience (at least 2 years) in data engineering, cloud technologies, and bringing data pipelines into production.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience with libraries such as PySpark, Pandas, or NumPy.
  • Solid skills in SQL and data modeling.
  • Experience with cloud tooling (preferably Azure) such as Databricks, Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, or Synapse.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Git, Docker, and serverless technologies.
  • An MSc or BSc in a relevant field.
  • Excellent command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
  • A proactive mindset: you spot opportunities, take initiative, and are confident making decisions.

  • Experience working in a commercial environment or consultancy.
  • Experience with multiple cloud platforms (in addition to Azure, also AWS or GCP).
  • Knowledge of streaming frameworks such as Kafka, Event Hubs, or Spark Streaming.

  • A monthly salary between €4,000 and €6,000, depending on your experience and skills.
  • Generous learning budgets to further deepen your expertise.
  • 25 vacation days, an annual ski trip, and several team outings each year.
  • An environment where you work alongside experts and have room for your technical input.
  • Projects across a wide range of industries.
  • Collaboration within an enthusiastic, close-knit team of technical colleagues at our Amsterdam office.
  • Becoming part of a company with an energetic mindset.
  • Solid pension benefits.
  • On-site sports facilities: make use of the gym and the padel court in our building.
